Accident Report

February 20, 2026, Eloy Marroquin was killed as the result of a train versus pickup accident at around 6:30 a.m. off Interstate 37.

It appears that the crash happened off southbound lanes of the interstate near mile marker 93, just north of Campbellton.

Authorities said in preliminary statements that 63-year-old Eloy Marroquin was in a Dodge Ram going along southbound lanes of the interstate. They believe that the vehicle initially ran off-road and crashed along railroad tracks passing underneath I-37. The vehicle apparently remained there for over an hour before a train struck the pickup.

Due to the collision, Eloy Marroquin was killed. No other injuries were reported. At this time, additional details surrounding the crash are unavailable.

How Did This Accident Occur?

Following early morning accidents, people often just jump to the conclusion that the driver must have fallen asleep at the wheel. That’s certainly a common possible factor to consider. However, one can’t rule out things like a vehicle defect or tire blowout without a proper accident reconstruction. That’s where things can become challenging.

To be rather blunt, experience makes me wary of any car accident investigation from the police that hasn’t been double-checked by more experienced independent accident reconstructionists. Not all departments have the time, tools, or experienced personnel for a thorough accident reconstruction, especially when it comes to ruling out possible defects. That’s true enough with a typical crash, but this one ended with a train crashing into the victim’s vehicle. That’s only going to create additional hurdles for investigators, so it’s crucial they have the experience and the equipment needed to sift through all of that wreckage and get some clear answers.

Maybe the authorities handling this crash are exceptionally well-equipped to handle that kind of investigation. Frankly, though, that’s not something I’d ever take for granted. In the meantime, if there was anyone in the area around the time of the crash, any insight would is welcome.
