Quay County, NM — June 11, 2026, David Gutierrez was killed and another person was injured in a truck accident at about 2 p.m. on U.S. Route 54.
Authorities said a commercial truck was heading north near mile marker 318 when it crashed into a vehicle that was stopped in road.
The driver of the stopped vehicle, 67-year-old David Gutierrez, died from injuries suffered in the crash between Tucumcari and Logan, according to authorities.
The truck driver was hospitalized with head injuries, authorities said.
Authorities have not released any additional information about the Quay County crash at this time.
How Did This Accident Occur?
There are a number of questions for authorities to answer about this crash. Why was the vehicle stopped on the highway? Why wasn’t the truck driver able to avoid this collision? Was the driver distracted, or dealing with balky brakes?
