How Did This Accident Occur?
Authorities believe alcohol led to this crash. Even if that’s true, that might not tell the whole story. I’ve handled hundreds of alcohol-related accident cases, and there is often a negligent alcohol provider responsible for over-serving the alleged drunk driver. Here’s why that matters for victims and families involved in a crash.
To sum up a lot of legal stuff, it’s unlawful in Texas for bars and other establishments to over-serve someone who is obviously intoxicated. If that intoxication leads to an intoxicated person harming themselves or others, the alcohol provider can be responsible for their role in that harm. This exposes them to consequences such as criminal investigations, responsibility for injuries, license suspensions, and administrative fines.
In other words, a drunk driver might have their own actions to answer for, but the true problem could go deeper than that. By seeking out and holding accountable negligent alcohol providers, victims and families can see those establishments clean up their act before more people get hurt. So while authorities seem confident that drunk driving led to this accident, they may only be telling half the story.
