Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
Workplace shootings can be a lot more complex than what people may realize, as they sometimes extend beyond the actions of the people actually engaged in the shooting. I had a case a while back, for example, where a new employee working at a gas station ended up being robbed, and they were shot in the process. It turned out that gas station had a significant history of violence, yet the employers gave absolutely no warning to the new hire.
That actually made the employer partially liable for not ensuring the new worker was fully informed of the working conditions before accepting the job. I’m not saying that happened here, of course, but it’s an example of how there can be more than one issue that needs to be addressed to ensure the victim’s loved ones see a just resolution.
