Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

After any serious car accident, it’s not unusual for the details to be few and far between. The question is what authorities have done in the ensuing days to gather and preserve evidence. Have they pulled vehicle data? Mapped out debris and road markings? Inspected for vehicle defects? Pulled cellphone records? Looked for nearby cameras? Recorded witness statements?

An accident reconstruction needs to be able to provide a clear picture of everything that went wrong. If authorities don’t have the time or resources to dedicate to a thorough accident reconstruction, important details may slip through the cracks.

That’s why many victims and families end up having independent investigators look into things. Rather than wait around for answers they may never get, there can be more direct steps to get experienced, well-equipped professionals looking over the evidence and bringing the full story to light.
