How Did This Accident Occur?

When it comes to accidents that happen in intersections, most people are content to assume it was due to driver error without giving it much further consideration. I’ve been in the line of business for over three decades, though. I’ve seen plenty of similar cases in which evidence of less likely causes ended up being unearthed by the investigations. That’s why I’m slow to jump to conclusions.

That’s not to imply that I know more about this specific accident than anyone else outside of the investigation, by the way. I simply want to point out that, hypothetically, the wreck could have been a result of something gone wrong with one of the vehicles rather than driver error. What if, for example, one of the vehicles had experienced brake failure at that critical moment. I understand that it is not likely, but neither is it outside of the realm of possibilities.

Hopefully the investigators—whether the authorities or a third party—think to get in-depth inspections done on the involved vehicles. That way any mechanical malfunctions or product defects that played a role in the wreck can be brought to light instead of being allowed to fly under the radar. After all, the people affected by this accident deserve more than the vague assumptions that result from surface-level investigation.
