Accident Report
May 19, 2026, two people were injured due to a car accident at approximately 1:00 in the afternoon along McCann Road.
According to authorities, two people were traveling in an SUV at the McCann Road and Ruth Lynn Drive intersection when the accident took place. Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, a truck allegedly entered the intersection against a red light. It was consequently involved in a collision with the SUV.
Two people from the SUV reportedly sustained injuries of unknown severity, though they were apparently not life-threatening. They were transported to an area medical facility by EMS in order to receive necessary treatment.
Additional details pertaining to this incident—including the identities of the victims—are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
How Did This Accident Occur?
Most people, when it comes to intersection-related accidents, are quick to assume they were due to driver error. It’s true, more often that not, that turns out to have been the case. However, I’ve learned over the last thirty years not to jump to conclusions, no matter how simple things appear on the surface. I’ve seen plenty of cases over the last three decades in which evidence of less likely causes ended up being unearthed by the investigation.
To be clear, I am not insinuating that I know more about this specific accident than anyone else outside of the investigation. I just want to point out that, rather than driver error, it could have been caused by something wrong with the traffic signal itself. While they are excellent tools, they are not infallible; what if it gave contradicting signals to the involved vehicles and that was the cause of the accident?
I understand that it is less likely, but that does not mean that it is impossible. Hopefully the investigators—whether the authorities or a third party—are meticulous and openminded enough to at least consider it. After all, the people affected by this accident deserve more than vague assumptions based on surface-level investigation.
