Accident Report

January 26, 2026, three people were injured due to a car accident at approximately 4:00 a.m. along the Interstate Highway 35 southwest bound frontage road.

According to authorities, two people—a 31-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman—were traveling in a southwest bound Honda Accord on the I-35 frontage road at the Thrush Avenue intersection when the accident took place. It was noted in reports that the wreck happened within a construction zone. Officials indicate that, for reasons yet to be confirmed, a collision occurred between the front-end of the Accord and the rear-end of a southwest bound Hyundai Elantra occupied by a 25-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman.

The man from the Accord reportedly sustained serious injuries over the course of the accident. Both people from the Elantra suffered minor injuries, as well, according to reports.

How Did This Accident Occur?

Rear-end accidents are one of the most common types of collisions on modern roadways. Given that the wreck took place so early in the morning, it’s easy and natural to assume that driver fatigue had a hand in the cause of the wreck. However, given my experience with accidents like this in the past, what stands out to me is the fact that it took place in a construction zone. Were attenuation devices and warning signs properly placed? Were any required lane changes clearly visible for drivers? These traffic control devices are meant to improve safety within construction zones, but they can also be confusing or distracting if not used properly.

Construction zones can be tricky to navigate during daylight hours, let alone in the dark hours of early morning. You can let me know whether or not you agree, but investigators should be asking if the construction zone played a part in how and why this accident happened. Personally, I wouldn’t be surprised if it did.
