How Did This Accident Occur?

Initial reports contend the truck driver caused this crash while trying to pass another vehicle, but it still warrants a full investigation. Maybe the truck driver misjudged the time available to pass. Maybe he had a medical emergency. Maybe the truck had an issue with its throttle or steering mechanism. Investigators should be able to provide picture of what caused this crash.

That starts with reconstructing this accident using witness statements, vehicle data, physical evidence and available video footage, while cell phone records could show what the driver was doing at the time.

Authorities also should look at the trucking company. Its records will show if the driver was properly vetted and trained or whether he had been on the road too long before this crash. Records also will show if the truck was overdue for any scheduled maintenance or repairs.
