Accident Report
September 6, 2026, a man and a woman sustained fatal injuries due to a box truck accident at 9:12 a.m. on Harlan Road.
Preliminary information about the crash says that it happened off the corner of the Harlan Road and Highway 115 intersection, between Mesick and Copemish.
According to officials, a 49-year-old Ohio man and a 39-year-old Ohio woman were in a Jeep traveling along Harlan Road. At an intersection, authorities say that a box truck failed to stop at a stop sign, resulting in a collision with the Jeep.
Due to the collision, reports say the woman in the Jeep died at the scene. As of September 11, authorities say that the man driving the Jeep also succumbed to his injuries. Multiple dogs in the Jeep also reportedly died due to the crash.
Authorities said in preliminary reports that drugs might have been a factor in the crash, but this and other details are unconfirmed right now.
How Did This Accident Occur?
Authorities mentioned that drugs may have been a factor here. They didn’t mention in what way, what drugs are suspected, or whether or not charges are being considered. I do want to point out, though, that drugs wouldn’t automatically make a situation like this open-and-shut. I can give a perfect example of why.
Not long ago, I had a case involving a commercial truck driver who crashed while high on drugs. His employer, however, tried to deny responsibility for the crash. They did so by instead blaming the accident on an ambulance, saying the lights blinded their driver. As ridiculous as that sounds, I’ve seen inexperienced lawyers ruin cases by failing to take seemingly flimsy defenses seriously. I wasn’t about to make that mistake.
So, we canvassed every ambulance company in the area, found the one that had a unit in the area at the time of the crash, and obtained their logs. It clearly showed that the ambulance was almost a mile down the road, and a thorough accident reconstruction proved that the lights wouldn’t have blinded anyone—sober or not. It was only after that the trucking company decided to do right by my clients.
Again, this is just an example involving a truck driver who was on drugs, as is alleged as a possibility in this crash. Details may come to light which show there were other factors that led to this crash. Or, maybe drugs were involved, and they’re just the beginning of far more serious issues going on behind the scenes for this truck driver and any potential employers.
My point is that people lost their lives here, and nothing should be taken for granted in regards to getting justice for that. It’s always important that families are able to tell the whole story and anticipate any potential roadblocks put between them and a fair resolution. As damning as the initial reports may sound, there could always be more to the story that needs further attention.
