How Did This Accident Occur?

Most people who read about this crash would assume the motorcyclist caused this crash. That is likely because of persistent stereotypes that paint anyone who rides a motorcycle as a reckless daredevil, but that doesn’t match my experience with motorcyclists. They tend to be very safety conscious because they understand how vulnerable they are on the road surrounded by larger vehicles.

It may turn out that this accident happened because the motorcyclist was distracted, or maybe the truck stopped suddenly or moved in front of the motorcycle. A full investigation will be needed to sort out what happened on this stretch of I-39.

Investigators will reconstruct this accident using vehicle data, physical evidence, witness statements and available video footage. They also should push for an in-depth inspection to determine if the motorcycle had a mechanical issue or manufacturer’s defect that contributed to this crash.
