Accident Report
February 19, 2026, Anthony Simmons was injured due to a truck accident shortly before 9:30 p.m. along Interstate Highway 20.
According to authorities, 56-year-old Anthony Simmons was traveling in an eastbound BMW sedan on Lyndon B Johnson Freeway in the vicinity east of Robinson Road when the accident took place.
Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, an eastbound Kenworth 18-wheeler purportedly failed to appropriately control its speed and followed the BMW too closely. A collision consequently occurred between the front-end of the Kenworth and the rear-end of the passenger car.
Simmons reportedly sustained serious injuries as a result of the wreck. It does not appear that anyone else was hurt. Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
How Did This Accident Occur?
I can imagine that most people who read about accidents like this one might assume driver error played a part. I’ve had the opportunity to analyze hundreds of truck accidents over the years, and—while driver error is often an issue—I don’t think it is wise to jump to that conclusion allow other things to go unnoticed.
What if the truck was dealing with brake failure? 18-wheelers require several hundred feet to come to a stop. If the brakes were not working properly, then it is no wonder it was unable to stop before a collision took place. Leave me a comment if you have an idea of other essential systems that need to be looked into.
My hope is that investigators are asking the right questions and looking in the right places in order to rule things like that out. The vehicle maintenance logs should be dissected in order to ensure that the brakes—and other crucial mechanisms and systems—were inspected and functioning properly. If required inspections and maintenance were skipped, then the company with which the truck is affiliated could shoulder more than a little of the responsibility for the wreck and, as such, should be held accountable.
