How Did This Accident Occur?

People tend to assume that every crash either involves speeding or distracted driving. As common as those are, they’re just a couple among countless possible factors to consider.

For example, did a tire failure contribute to this crash? That might seem like a simple thing to investigate, but it often takes a lot of experience and state-of-the-art equipment to definitively rule out. Officers don’t often have access to those resources. That’s why despite handling serious car accident cases for over 30 years, I’ve rarely seen authorities do tire reconstruction. It usually takes more thorough independent investigations from professionals who have specialized training and tools.

This is just one example, of course, but it’s one that too often goes overlooked. If authorities didn’t look into that yet, it might raise questions about what else may have slipped through the cracks.
