If you’ve been hurt in San Angelo, a personal injury attorney can help you recover the compensation you deserve.
Having practiced in San Angelo for more than 25 years, it’s been our privilege here at Grossman Law Offices to see this place grow and change. However, these years of experience tell us that there’s always a cost when things progress. In the case of our city, that means a dramatic increase in personal injuries and fatalities. While some people would be quick to dismiss such injuries as simply a byproduct of progress, we simply cannot accept that answer. Progress doesn’t cause injuries, it’s the corner cutting and carelessness that is done in the name of progress, and that’s not something we can abide.
Our mission is to make sure that people aren’t left by the wayside when they’ve been hurt. Whether we’re talking about injuries caused by the city’s growth or the types of routine injuries that can happen to anyone, anywhere, our job is to ensure that people who get injured are compensated.
When cities expand, workers often pay the price.
There’s no getting around it, Texas is a state where a worker’s rights are severely curtailed. Many laws are written to benefit the employer. As a result, when accidents happen on the job, companies are able to cast the victims aside, confident that the law protects them from liability. Or so they think.
The truth is, a person with the right advocate and a good case is usually able to defeat a phalanx of company lawyers. This is because most on the job accidents, no matter the industry, aren’t really “accidents.” In the past 25 years, we’ve found that in the vast majority of cases, accidents are the result of an institutional, systemic and pervasive disregard for safety in the name of profit. When companies are grossly negligent, no protectionist laws will save them from a jury. If you’ve lost a loved one, you may even have a wrongful death case worth pursuing.
No matter the industry, be it accidents in trucking, construction or petroleum, there will always be firms and bosses who are willing to risk the lives and limbs of their employees to eke out a bit more profit. This is the sad reality in a lot of places that are growing rapidly, San Angelo included. And unfortunately, sometimes the only way these companies make change is when they are compelled to by a court and face stiff monetary penalties.
But if you’ve been hurt, money isn’t probably your main concern, aside from paying for medical bills or other expenses. Most people are concerned with ensuring that what happened to them doesn’t happen to anyone else, ever again. What types of injuries are most common in San Angelo?
Like most Texas cities, San Angelo residents find car accidents to be an everyday occurrence. Many of these accidents are caused by outsiders who are new to the area, sure, but the majority are caused by our fellow citizens. Car accidents are by far the most common cause of injuries here. This includes accidents involving commercial trucks and 18-wheelers, and even drunk drivers. Drunk driving accidents plague the entire state, but bars and restaurants in San Angelo tend to bend the rules of safe alcohol service more so than what we see in larger cities. For instance, in Houston, a non-profit coalition provides free rides to drunk drivers in an attempt to curtail drunk driving.
San Angelo, unfortunately, is a bit more lax about these very serious wrecks, and what ends up happening is that bars have unfortunately gotten the message that improper service is not that big of a deal. We hope to change that by suing drunk drivers and the bars who served them. We think we can send a message to the local servers that there are consequences for their blatant violations of the rules established by the TABC. Further, of our clients are hurt by negligent property owners. Whether it be due to dangerous animals that escape from a neighbor’s yard or a slick walking surface in a retail store, Texas premises liability law holds property owners accountable for injuries caused by hazards or defects of their property.
