Indemnify: To restore the victim of a loss, either in whole or in part, by payment of money or repair or replacement of the thing lost.
Indictment: A written accusation by a grand jury charging a person with a crime.
Informed Consent: Person's agreement to allow something to happen, such as a medical procedure, that is based on full disclosure of the facts necessary to make an intelligent decision.
Injunction: Writ or order by a court prohibiting a specific action from being carried out by a person or group. A preliminary injunction is granted provisionally, until a full hearing can be held to determine if it should be made permanent.
Intervention: An action by which a third person who may be affected by a lawsuit is permitted to become a party to the suit. Differs from the process of becoming an amicus curiae.
Insurance Adjuster: An insurance adjuster is the person who works for the insurance company and is assigned to evaluate an incident that the insurance policy is thought to cover with the purpose of approving or denying all or some part of the claim. It must be understood that the sole purpose of the insurance adjuster is to save their company as much money as possible. They do this by searching out technicalities by which they can pass blame onto someone other than their insurance company. Often an adjuster will act very friendly toward accident victims but make no mistake about it they do not have the accident victim's best interests in mind.
Insurance Company: The primary underwriter for an insurance policy.
Insurance Policy: A policy that serves to insulate an individual, company, or municipality from financial responsibility in the event that they directly or indirectly contribute to an accident or other event.
