Have You Been Injured in an Automobile Accident on the LBJ Freeway?
If you’ve suffered moderate to severe injuries due to a negligent or reckless car or truck driver on Interstate 635 (often abbreviated to “I-635″ or referred to as the Lyndon B. Johnson Freeway or “LBJ”), you may be entitled to compensation for your injuries under Texas’ injury laws. However, the amount and your ability to recover compensation for your damages can only be determined after conferring with an experienced auto accident attorney like ours at Grossman Law Offices.
History and Construction of I-635
Since 1959, I-635 has provided Dallas residents a short, 37 mile long connective half-loop around Dallas’ northern and eastern suburbs. Specifically, I-635 originates in the east where I-20 connects near Balch Springs, and ends at Highway 121 near the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport in Grapevine.
Unique Dangers Presented by I-635
This unique stretch of highway presents some unusual dangers to Dallas’ drivers due to the high level of congestion caused by the hundreds of thousands of vehicles that it use it every day and the seemingly never-ending construction to accommodate them.
Dangers Presented by Commuters on I-635
Although short, this section of interstate is among the most densely crowded freeways in the entire state of Texas. Specifically, the Texas Department of Transportation has consistently ranked the section of LBJ between I-35 and Highway 75 among the most densely trafficked in the state. Unfortunately, impatient, sleep deprived, and otherwise negligent drivers contribute to these incredibly dangerous conditions on LBJ and often cause severe and deadly injuries.
Dangers Presented by the Constant Construction on I-635
It’s safe to say that some section of I-635 has been under some form of construction or renovation since it first opened. The most recently completed project was the “high-five” interchange project. The high-five is appropriately named because it is the first five-level interchange in Texas, and reaches a height equivalent to a 12-story building at its highest point. Overall, the High Five project added an additional 60 miles of highway to I-635 and Highway 75.
However, the congestion presented by the High-Five congestion pales in comparison to the congestion presented as a result of the I-635 “Managed HOV Lanes Project.” The I-635 Managed HOV project will attempt to relieve construction on the Interstate by taking the following three-pronged approach:
Constructing managed HOV lanes to LBJ from Luna Road to the High Five interchange. This process will include a full reconstruction of I-635 to I-35, one of the most congested section of highways in the entire State of Texas;
Building elevated managed HOV lanes connectors to Interstate 35 East from Loop 12 to I-635;
Improving existing managed HOV at the LBJ / Central Expressway interchange.
